Proto:87 Back to Back Gauge

A back to back gauge for checking and setting rolling stock wheels (Proto:87 only).

This precision ground tool is essentially a feeler gauge. A slightly tight but sliding fit between the backs of opposing wheel flanges ensures the correct dimension complementing the designed track standards. This gauge should be used for checking after setting the wheel set.
Use the gauge as a stop while pushing wheels on to an axle, but as this usually results in an undersized dimension, remove the gauge and then check the setting by sliding the gauge between the wheel flanges again.
